Sustainability in packaging is not defined by a single material, technology, or initiative. It is shaped by the choices made throughout the packaging journey: from the materials selected and the way solutions are designed to how resources are managed during production and how packaging is made available to businesses.
At UNIPAK, we continue to integrate sustainability into different aspects of our operations and solutions, with a focus on using resources more thoughtfully, improving efficiency, and continuously identifying opportunities to reduce our environmental impact.
Choosing Responsible Materials
The materials used to make packaging are an important part of its environmental profile. At UNIPAK, we use recyclable paper-based materials and incorporate recycled content where suitable. Through our FSC Chain of Custody certification, we can provide packaging made from FSC-certified materials for applicable orders, supporting responsible forest management.
Choosing responsibly sourced materials is one part of a broader approach that considers not only the packaging itself, but also where its materials come from and how they can be managed at the end of their use.
Designing Packaging with Purpose
Sustainability also begins at the design stage. By optimizing packaging structures, dimensions, and material use, we work to achieve the performance required by each application while using resources efficiently and minimizing unnecessary waste.
Our Innovation Center supports this approach by developing and testing packaging solutions that combine functionality, performance, and more efficient use of materials. Through ongoing innovation, we continue to explore ways to improve packaging without compromising the requirements it needs to meet.
Expanding the Use of Renewable Energy
Energy use is another important part of our sustainability efforts. Across our manufacturing premises, we are expanding the use of PV panels, increasing the share of renewable energy used in our operations.
This is an ongoing effort rather than a one-time initiative. As opportunities arise, we continue to look at ways to expand solar panel capacity and increase our use of renewable energy across our facilities.
Improving Resource and Operational Efficiency
Sustainability extends beyond the finished packaging. It also means looking closely at how resources are used within our facilities.
Our operations include initiatives focused on energy efficiency, emissions management, water treatment and reuse, and electric mobility. Water used in our operations is treated and managed for reuse where applicable, helping us make more efficient use of this resource and reduce unnecessary water consumption.
We also operate an emissions-controlled boiler, supporting more controlled energy and emissions management within our manufacturing processes. Alongside this, our fleet initiatives include the use of electric vehicles, contributing to our broader efforts to improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions.
Making Packaging Available in the Right Quantities
Sustainability is also connected to how much packaging businesses actually need. Producing more than necessary can lead to excess inventory, storage requirements, and material waste.
Through our E-Shop and Digital Center, businesses can access packaging in smaller quantities and benefit from more flexible production options. This helps make packaging more accessible to businesses with lower-volume requirements while supporting more efficient production and reducing the risk of unnecessary overproduction.
Continuing to Improve
A more thoughtful approach to packaging considers the decisions made throughout its journey.
At UNIPAK, sustainability is an ongoing commitment to reviewing these decisions, identifying opportunities for improvement, and making more responsible choices wherever possible.
On World Sustainability Day 2026, we reaffirm this commitment while recognizing that businesses also have an important role to play in making informed packaging decisions.
Choosing the right packaging is one consideration; understanding the practices, capabilities, and commitments of the partner behind it is another.
